Club History
Perth Railway Boxing Club was established in 1944 by Robert HP Duff and a group of local railwaymen as part of the umbrella organisation “Perth Railway Amateur Athletic Club”
Boxing was the main interest, but activities also included gymnastics, weightlifting and wrestling
The club initially met in a converted Railway canteen off the Edinburgh Road in Perth, near the current Tesco Superstore and club fees were 1 penny a week
The club had to make way for the build of the previous Tesco Superstore on Perth’s Edinburgh Rd in the 1960s
Throughout the 60s and 70s the club was located in former Carriage and Wagon repair shop off the Edinburgh Road, a Nissen Hut off Tulloch Rd and St Ninian’s Cathedral Hall
The club has been in the current premises on South Methven Street, Perth since May 1983
The club is a not for profit organisation, run entirely by a team of volunteers
The club meets every day of the week
The primary aim of the club is producing a pipeline of local boxing talent to compete locally, nationally and internationally in boxing shows and competitions, bringing medals back to Perth
As a spin off, the club also provides very reasonably priced fitness training to the people of Perth
The club has been involved in community work, having participated in many partnerships with schools and local youth groups and we are keen to look at other avenues to benefit the community where there is capacity in the future
